What’s insulation? Insulation is a material used in homes to slow the movement of heat. It helps keep warmth inside during winter and slows heat entering during summer. Homes without good insulation lose heat quickly, which makes them colder and harder to heat.
Heat naturally moves from warm areas to cooler areas. In winter, heat inside your home tries to escape through the roof, walls, and floor. Insulation works by creating a barrier that slows this heat transfer.

How insulation works

Where insulation should be installed in a home

Underfloor insulation
Underfloor insulation helps stop cold air rising through the floor. Timber floors with open subfloors can allow significant heat loss during winter.
Insulating beneath the floor helps keep floors warmer and improves overall comfort inside the home.
When the ceiling, walls, and floor all contain good insulation, the home becomes much more energy efficient.
